about

Although both tracks on this EP can be considered as Neurofunk DnB, they are different in Sound and Workflow.

I've done a visualization for Final Rush on which the cover is based on: vimeo.com/65961566

I'm quite pleased with Final Rush, but I'm really proud of Forerunner.
It took me 7 months and 7 days from start to finish, but during that time I had a lot of other work to do, so I had to wait until I could finally finish it in July.

The track is based on the growly dark FM-snythesized Bassline and the heavy Drums that go along with it. I've packed it with detail, tons of sounds I've created and customized to fill up the track, to make it an interesting experience, something that increases your appreciation the more often you listen to it. Every transition is tweaked to maximum to archive a continuous experience, a journey through the different parts of the track.

Aside from the Mastering Forerunner has been completely created within Reason 5. It's responsible for the raw, analogue sound. I've considered bouncing all tracks for a new mix-down within Reaper, for a clearer sound, more similar to Final Rush, but that would have taken a lot of time and I really wanted to finish it.

The title is based on the idea what this track meant to me back then when I started it. It was a big step, a success, the best project so far and after a while I thought that this track is a "Forerunner of things to come".

I planned to finish Forerunner in May and wanted to create visuals for the track as my final school project. Two weeks before the project started the intro was still completely missing and I doubted that I would finish it during that time, so I've created a completely new piece - Final Rush (You can watch the visualization of Final Rush here: vimeo.com/65961566 ).

It was finished within five days, aside from a transition that i've reworked one week later, and I've used drums that I've created a few days earlier. That's where the title's from - I've rushed on so many projects as I did on this one, and it was the last one for school, the conclusion of a series of works.

Whereas Forerunner's drums are rather hard and punchy, Final Rush's Kick and Snare are soft and neat. The mix-down is solid and clean - a shiny digital sound.

What I probably like most about Final Rush is the 'drumfunky' Guitar-Mid-Part. I love how the hits of the drums and the notes of the bass play with each other.

The raw bassline has been created with Reason and then further processed, chopped, and pitched in Reaper, which I've used as DAW on Final Rush and is my main Audio Sequencer today.

Both tracks are built up on their bassline which have been created by experimentation, by accident. Both have a solid beat, similar structure and contain no vocal elements.
